Carers
Am I a Carer?
If you give emotional or practical support to a family member or friend who is experiencing mental health problems, then you are a "carer". Carers can be partners, parents, friends, siblings, sons, daughters and other relatives.
How can you help me?
We can offer one-to-one support and a listening ear, provide information on mental health, medication, and carers rights. We have details about other local services, and can give advice on how to access them. We can help with access to conferences and other events on carers issues. The Support Worker is usually available to offer telephone support and advice, but if this is not the case, please leave a message with a member of staff or on the answerphone, and the support worker will call you back as soon as possible.
When someone is experiencing mental ill health, they may behave in ways that are upsetting for those around them. The Carers Support Project can put you in contact with other carers through the monthly support group and our Education Course for carers - "Living with mental health problems - a course for relatives and friends."
Talking to people in a similar situation can help lessen the sense of isolation that carers sometimes feel and our groups are relaxed and informal. If you would like additional information on either the support group or the Carers Course, please contact us.
The Carers' Project staff work closely with carers to ensure that when Health and Social Work in the Falkirk area are planning and developing new and existing Mental Health services, carers' views and needs are taken into account. If you'd like more information on how you can be involved in developing mental health services locally, please contact us.
The project doesn't charge for any of its services due to the generosity of statutory organisations, charitable trusts and fundraising. If you would like to make a donation to this service, it would be very much appreciated.
