Physical Activity Development Project
This service is aimed at assisting people with mental health problems to become more physically active than they are at present. This achieved by providing a variety of taster sessions, organised events and classes, and accompanied activities.
This service is for adults in contact with mental health services or their GP for mental health problems.
It is recognised that individuals may gain many benefits from physical activity including:
- Short and long term reduction in stress
- Improved confidence
- Increased self-esteem
- Weight management
- Making new friends
The service is free but you will be expected to pay the going rate for activities you take part in. The project worker will be able to advise you on council leisure and health cards which offer discounts or free access to certain facilities.
The following groups operate every week*, please get in touch if you would like to join in with any of them:
- Monday
Women's walking group
This group meets at the kiosk in Callendar Park at 12 noon and walks different parts of the network each week. (Free)
- Tuesday
Gym
Group meets at FK One Fitness at 11am for an hours workout. Cost £3
Swimming
Participants meet at FDAMH at 1.30pm or at the Grangemouth Sports Complex at 2pm. (Cost £2.60)
- Wednesday
Walking Group
The group leaves CallendarPark Kiosk at 12 noon. This group is not of a high density and is a great way of meeting people. (Free)
Carpet Bowls
The Carpet Bowls Group play at the Thornhill Community Centre from 2pm to 3pm. (Cost 50p)
*Please be aware that the groups will not run on public holidays.
