What is time out?

What Time Out does?

The service is designed to offer information, advice and support to those that are experiencing troublesome thoughts, feelings and actions. The service aims to offer help to people at an early stage of their difficulties to prevent a person's crisis turning into an emergency.

Who is Time Out for?

Any adult in the Falkirk area who appears to be in mental health crisis or emotional distress and requires support, information or advice. The service also offers information, advice and support to family, friends or carers of people with mental health problems.

Access to the service can be by telephone, e-mail, mobile phone texting or type talk. There arte no eligibility criteria and people can self-refer to the service, we also welcome referrals from all service providers.

What Time Out does?

Time Out staff offer people an opportunity to be listened to and time to talk through their worries, concerns or distress without the loss of any control in their life. The approach used is person-centred, non-directional and non-judgemental. The Time Out service hopes, in preventative terms to lessen the need for medication, relieve pressure on families and other services, by supporting, empowering and encouraging people to look at their own way forward and take control of their own unique situation.

The service offers help in preventing problems associated with the stressors of ordinary day to day life with mental health difficulties.

Who works for Time Out?

The team consists of 8 trained and paid specialist workers with considerable experience in the health and social care sectors. The backgrounds of the workers are varried and include; qualifications in psychiatric nursing, social work, counselling, art therapy and various levels in social care.

In a Crisis?

If you are in a crisis it is important to contact people who can help you. Perhaps you are not coping, feeling frightened, confused or worried, then don't let these feelings put you off asking for help. If you are feeling overwhelmed or so distressed that you have thoughts of harming yourself or another, then you need to seek help.
