Blether Together

Telephone BefriendingA new service from our Third Age Befriending (TAB) project aims to help older people experiencing loneliness who are presently unable to leave their house.

Increasingly, older adults with mobility limitations find themselves without any social interaction, leaving them feeling down and lonely. “Blether Together” allows clients the opportunity to chat with a friendly volunteer once a week, for around 30 minutes. They could chat about what they have been reading, watching on TV or radio, or reminisce about past times and memories. They could even share a crossword together!

It is hoped that this will help to keep clients mentally stimulated and contribute towards maintaining their interests and conversational skills. We hope that, in turn, this will help to sustain their mental well-being and help alleviate the negative impact of loneliness.

This new service will complement our ongoing services, the one-to-one Befriending and our Social Contact groups. We hope, where possible and when not limited by physical conditions, that clients who begin with our Telephone Befriending are able to move into our Social Contact groups once their confidence increases.

Referrals are invited from health and social care professionals operating in Falkirk District. Full information, including referral criteria, can be found on the TAB page of our website
