Some of our Third Age Befriending group members expressed a keen desire to get out fishing! So, wellies on and off we went on our first organised fishing trip to Glenbervie Trout Fishery in Torwood in April. The group of 6 included members that had been keen fisherfolk, but had not been fishing in some time due to fear of falling, or lack of company to go with; someone who had never been fishing before but fancied giving it a try at the ripe age of 64; as well as a couple of seasoned fishes. The group was supported by volunteer Ivo, who had fished in his home country, but had yet to experience fishing in Falkirk!
True to Scottish style, it was forecast to be a beautiful day, when in fact the group fished in blizzard conditions! Stoically ignoring the snow and hailstones, the group refused to be driven into retreat and two members went on to catch a couple of beautiful rainbow trout. Richard (pictured) caught this wonderful 2.5lb trout, which graced a ceremonial family dinner!
The group thoroughly enjoyed the trip and are very keen to make this a regular occurrence throughout the fishing season. We’d like to thank Marika and all the team at Glenbervie Trout Fishery, who made the trip so enjoyable and even served us up hot pie and beans for lunch.
