A fabulous evening of entertainment, dancing and great company has been FDAMH’s small way of thanking our volunteers for the terrific and absolutely vital work that they do! We were thrilled to be able to put on this event in the Park Hotel on Friday 30th January, and delighted by the great response. FDAMH’s patron, Dennis Canavan, took the opportunity to praise the fantastic efforts of FDAMH’s volunteers, who now number over 100! We were delighted to also have the support of Provost Pat Reid, and Councillors Cecil Meiklejohn, Joan Paterson and Adrian Mahoney who came along to show our volunteers just how much they matter to the local community.
The evening was made extra special with live music from the excellent David Faulds and The Tonkerers, who kept us dancing ’til late; awesome magic, accompanied by cries of delight and applause, was provided table to table by Colin Mackenzie ; and comic genius from local cartoonist Jim Barker, who ensured that many of our volunteers went away with their very own caricatures as a memento of the evening!
But best of all was the opportunity to have so many of our volunteers together at once. The nature of volunteering roles means that volunteers may work individually in the community or only see other volunteers that happen to work on the same day or at training events. This was a lovely chance for everyone in the FDAMH family, volunteers and staff, to catch up, meet and mingle.
Huge thanks go to everyone who contributed to the event, not least all our guests for making the effort to come out on a cold and icy evening! Also thanks to our photographers, Graeme Findlay and Gordon Brown, who worked hard all night long and to the staff at the Park Hotel who did us proud. And finally special mention must go to our Volunteer Coordinator, Morag Fullard, who masterminded the whole affair and organised things so beautifully.
