Shortlisted for Alliance Self Management Awards
We’re really thrilled that our colleague, Janet Crawford, has been shortlisted in this year’s Alliance Self Management Awards.
Janet is one of three finalists in the Self Management Champion of the Year category. A well-known figure in the local and national spoken-word scene, Janet brings all of her experience and enthusiasm to her inspiring creative groups for people using our Social Spark service.
Janet said “For me it’s about the possibilities which the creative spark can ignite. It’s creating spaces where people feel able to try new things and allow themselves a moment for themselves. Being alongside, listening to and appreciating people for who and where they are, unconditionally… as was done for me, when I needed support.”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Scottish Parliament on the 8th October.

Keen Gardener? Opportunity to help our High Street gardeners
FDAMH seeks a Gardening Group Volunteer to oversee and support a group of around 6-8 people within Falkirk to advise and support them in aspects of gardening, planting and maintaining a garden bed located in the High Street in Falkirk.
As well as our aim to reduce social isolation for those who attend, it is also to give people the opportunity to find a new interest, or re-engage with an old one, whilst being supported.
The group hope to meet one afternoon a week, for 2or 3 hours during the Spring and Summer, reducing to once a fortnight as Autumn moves into Winter. The group will run for 12 months, with a hope that the group is ongoing, with new members. If you are reliable with good communication skills, some gardening knowledge and able to commit to the programme we would love to hear from you.
Please get in touch with Morag Fullard at FDAMH to find out more, or you’ll find an application form on our Volunteering Page

Fishing group bonanza beats record!
Our Fishing Group ventured out to Glenbervie Fishery on a gorgeous bright February day and managed to beat our record for number of fish caught in a morning.
The group is supported by volunteers Jim and Michelle (thanks to them both) and Michelle was particularly excited at catching her first fish ever on only her second outing!
The fishing group meet monthly and try out new fisheries, as well as visiting old favourites like Glenbervie.
As well as getting out and enjoying the wildlife and filling their lungs with good fresh air, the group support each other, with more experienced fishers teaching the newer members. The emphasis is on having fun, chatting and helping to build new friendships. Our fabulous group T-shirts are a bonus – thank you John!
Any enquiries about our Fishing Group should be directed to Julie Law at FDAMH.
