Support Worker Vacancy at FDAMH

An excellent, entry-level opportunity is available at FDAMH for a friendly, keen-to-learn individual to join our adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Drop-In as a Support Worker.

Working to support the Service Manager in all aspects of service delivery, the post-holder will help in providing a welcoming and safe service to over 200 regular attendees to the Drop-In Centre. Through this hands-on role, the post will greatly develop the Support Worker’s existing knowledge and understanding of mental health and related issues, as well as advancing his/her therapeutic and inter-personal skills. Based within a highly respected charity, offering a full range of community mental health services, the post-holder will also have the additional benefit of developing a wider understanding of other interventions and the operation of third sector and statutory organisations, within the context of our supportive, knowledge-sharing team.

FDAMH is seeking an enthusiastic individual, with a strong team spirit, flexible approach and a clear focus on the service user. Excellent communication skills, patience and a friendly attitude are essential to this post. A relevant qualification in Social Care, Mental Health or similar is required at SVQ3 level or above.

The post is 25.5 set hours per week at a rate of £8.32 per hour. The Deadline for applications is 17th May at 5pm.

Increasing Access to our Women’s Group

Changes are being brought in for the New Year that will increase the number of places available with our Women’s Group. We have been experiencing very high demand for our weekly Woman’s Group, with double the average attendance of 3 years ago and a long waiting list of 38 women.

After discussion with the women who currently attend we have decided to run two alternating women’s groups – each taking place fortnightly. This will allow twice as many people to benefit from the service whilst allowing those currently accessing the service to continue to benefit from it.

Our regular group members have taken the initiative to organise meeting up on the weeks that they do not attend the group to go out for a coffee or a bite to eat together.

Our Women’s Groups will continue to enjoy the same wide variety of activities that they’ve come to expect, including arts & crafts, seated Yoga, Bonnie Buttons, music days, quizzes and trips out.

Although these changes have freed up a large number of new spaces, people wishing to access the groups will still have to join our waiting list. If you are interested in joining please contact Michele Reap.

Tournament Winners!

Seven weeks of hard fought games between the Dream Team and the Irn Bru Crew in Drop-In have finally drawn to a close. Many thanks to Carol Aird for organising the tournament, which saw the teams battling it out over dominoes, darts, bowling, pool and quizzes! Carol even made sure there were medals at the presentation ceremony – but everyone got to join in with a special celebratory buffet! And the winners were….Irn Bru Crew! Better luck next time Dream Team.

Developments in Mental Health & Wellbeing Drop-In

If you visit FDAMH on a Thursday please take note of these new changes to services on that day. Changes will start on the week beginning 17th August 2015:

The Women’s Group will start half an hour earlier, running from 10.30am to 1pm (First group affected: 20th Aug)
Open access Drop-In for all on Thursday afternoons (which used to run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm) will be replaced with opportunities to take part in groups and activities – details for these will be provided as they become available. (First day of afternoon closure: 20th Aug)
Yoga (which used to start at 3.30pm) has been moved to a Tuesday at 4pm. (First Tuesday Yoga: 18th Aug).

Why these changes?
Education, training and support available from FDAMH is developing and we want as many people as possible to be able to benefit from courses and activities that will help them on their recovery journeys. We are very keen to be able to offer a wider range of opportunities to all of our service users and by using Thursday afternoons, during which open Drop-In was only available for 2 hours, we can open up a lot more opportunities whilst having the minimum impact on existing services.

If you have any queries or concerns at all about the changes please speak to Olivia or Michele. New opportunities will be advertised on our website, posters in the centre and promoted as necessary through our other avenues such as newsletters and social media.
