Second Date for No Men Nevis Launched

Our first-ever major fundraising event has proved to be in such demand that we’ve had to open a second date!

FDAMH has been thrilled by the huge support shown by people signing up to our women-only organised hike up Ben Nevis in July this year. Many people were disappointed to have missed out on a place and so, with the support of the team behind it all, we have been able to organise a second day on the same weekend.

Our second date is Satuday 16th of July 2016, with the original walk taking place the following day on Sunday 17th of July 2016. We’d like all of our walkers to note that they will only be able to take part on the day they are registered for!

If you would like to register before this last batch of spaces disappear please visit our No Men Nevis Page where you can register online NOW.

Volunteer with our Card Group and who knows what it might lead to!

We have a really nice vacancy for a volunteer to support our Mindful Card Group. Our last volunteer, Lynsey, has gained a lot from volunteering with FDAMH and as a result is moving on to another role – she says she just wishes she’d volunteered with us sooner!

If you have a calm, friendly disposition and like crafts (you don’t have to be an expert!) this could be a perfect volunteering role for you. Our Mindfulness Card Group offers a space for people to relax. The end product of a card is secondary to the experience of being in a safe, small group concentrating on an activity that might take our group members’ minds off their troubles. The group is aimed at being a starting point for people who would find it difficult to initially attend activities in the community. The group meet one afternoon a week, for 2 hours.

So what’s it like to volunteer with FDAMH’s Card Group? Lynsey, the last post-holder, shares her very positive experience here.

If you’d like to apply please visit our Volunteer Page for more details and our online application form, or you can contact Morag on 01324 671600 for an informal chat.

Top Two New Years Resolutions!

Whatever your plans next year, if you’re thinking about a New Years Resolution we’d like to offer you up two fantastic opportunities that are definitely going to give 2016 that feel good factor!

1. Volunteer with FDAMH
Did you know FDAMH boasts over 100 volunteers? There are a whole host of opportunities with FDAMH and they come with the support of a full initial training programme, ongoing learning, social events and continued support from your Project Leader and our dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, Morag! We think we offer a great package, but you don’t need to just take it from us – in our volunteer survey every one of our respondents said they would recommend volunteeering with FDAMH. We’re looking for all sorts of people to help us in for example: befriending, arts projects, drama, group work, trips out, as drivers, as fundraisers and as Board Members. Not sure you’re the right fit? You can have a friendly informal chat with our Volunteer Co-ordinator Morag on 01324 671600. Or find out more on our Volunteer Page. You never know what it might lead to!

2. Join or Support No Men Nevis!
You might not have time to become a regular volunteer, but perhaps you’d like to join our first ever major fundraising event taking place in July 2016. It’s a women-only guided walk up Ben Nevis, but don’t despair if you’re a man or not enticed by the thought of walking up Britain’s highest peak! You can help out by supporting our walkers, and indeed, we may have some other volunteering opportunities coming up later to help support the event! Find out more on our No Men Nevis Page

New Volunteers Are Great News For Our Services

Another 7 volunteers have just successfully completed our training programme – many congratulations to you all and we hope you enjoy being part of FDAMH’s volunteer team!

Our new volunteers will be taking up a range of roles: two drivers will be particularly beneficial for our Stepping on Groups which work to relieve the isolation experienced by older people; two new Women’s Group volunteers will help support staff run this ever-popular weekly session; one new Third Age Befriender means another older person is about to get good news; and one volunteer will support our Social Prescribing team and get involved with training.

FDAMH couldn’t deliver many of its services without support from volunteers – people just like you. There are many roles and different levels of commitment. Why not call us for a friendly and frank chat about volunteering with FDAMH? Volunteering in 2016 could be the start of a whole new you, so give your life a fresh twist and call Morag on 01324 671600.
