“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”
We are in no doubt that without the contribution of our volunteers FDAMH would not be able to offer the range of services that we do!
Our volunteers, young and older, come from all walks of life. As a FDAMH volunteer you’ll receive great training and support to make sure you are successful in your role. You might even find you learn and develop skills that help you in everday life and work. And you can be confident that you are joining a great volunteering organisation as FDAMH has achieved the UK ‘Investing in Volunteers’ Standard.
We are always in need of additional volunteers! In return for giving us some of your time we can offer you the opportunity to meet new people, enhance your skill base and make a significant difference to other people’s lives. You need only devote a couple of hours of your time and any expenses you incur will be reimbursed.
If you are over 18 and think that you would be interested in joining us then please complete the application form (right) or if you want further information then give us a call on 01324 671600.
Current Volunteering Opportunities
IMPORTANT – Where roles involve working directly with the people who access our services we require volunteers who have free time on weekdays, during the day.
– The exception is counselling volunteers where we provide some weekday evening services.
– If you’re looking for a more flexible role why not think about supporting our Welcome Café project or Fundraising?
Welcome Café Ambassadors
Help to create some of life’s lovely moments
This is great opportunity for you to play a pivotal role in taking forward a truly community initiative! The Welcome Café scheme supports enthusiastic cafés and restaurants to promote table-sharing and encourage those little conversations that help to brighten all our days.
Our Welcome Café volunteers visit participating cafés to…
- Keep cafés topped up with Welcome Café literature and resources
- Strike up a rapport with café staff as their feedback is crucial to achieve successful outcomes
- Observe what is happening on the ground
- Regularly feedback comments and suggestions to the project coordinator
This is a varied role that would also suit those looking for regular volunteering with flexible times or options for weekend volunteering.
Do you have skills and enthusiasm to help our organisation thrive and continue its highly-respected support for the mental wellbeing of our community? FDAMH’s Trustees meet every two months and lend their expertise to the strategic development of the organisation.
Community Engagement & Fundraising
“Everyone stands to gain – your community, your work, and you as you release your inspiration and energy to support a local community project”
Are you open, friendly and reliable? If you have good communication skills and the confidence to interact with the public we would love to hear from you. We are looking for volunteers to join our community engagement and fundraising team at FDAMH.
This is a new team and its aim is to look at all aspects of fundraising, therefore as a fundraising volunteer you will help shape the events we offer. Not only will you help look at where we can raise funds and how, but you can also take an active part in organising, promoting or manning events and exhibitions. You can give as much or as little time as you can spare.
The Social Spark – Social Connector Volunteers
A key part of the Social Spark team is to offer a wide range of opportunities from small social contact groups, to fishing groups, to a buddy service and one-to-one befriending.
Tea and a Blether
Volunteers support this lively bunch in getting the best out of their day. They help the conversation flow and encourage the group members in trying out new venues or activities.
Our social contact groups within The Social Spark are small groups of between 3 and 8 people, who have mental health conditions and find themselves isolated and lacking in company and support to get out and about. The groups meet fortnightly or monthly in a variety of cafes and restaurants throughout Falkirk and are supported by volunteers interested in working with clients who might have a variety of anxieties.
- Contact the group members to confirm attendance
- Support group members in sourcing transport to and from the event, where possible
- Making clients feel safe and comfortable in the venue
- Helping source new cafes and places of interest that the group members may enjoy and checking availability/accessibility
- Alerting group members to other opportunities available, e.g. Walking groups, local hobby classes, etc.
- Alert staff to any decline in both mental and physical health of group members
The Vital Spark
Help someone rediscover their ‘get up and go’ before it’s got up and gone!
Can you spare just two hours of your time, once a week, to help someone re-establish links with their community? Are you open, friendly, chatty, reliable and patient? If the answer to these questions is a ‘yes’, we think you are the ideal person to become a volunteer social connector.
No formal experience is required to become a volunteer social connector as we provide comprehensive, in house training. You just need to have a genuine interest in people, good listening skills and patience and be willing to devote a few hours of your time each week or fortnightly for a minimum of one year.
Man-Up! We are particularly keen to boost the numbers of male befrienders we have available so that we can meet the needs of our community. Don’t be shy, if you think you might be interested you can have an informal chat with us to find out more!
“My counsellor was fantastic. A weight has lifted.”
We are currently keen to recruit trainee counsellors in their final year of training. If you hold a Certificate in Counselling Skills and have successfully completed the first year of your Diploma Course in Counselling then you could join our very busy, generic counselling service as a volunteer. The service is available to people presenting with a broad range of issues therefore you will gain invaluable counselling experience. We currently offer sessions on weekdays and evenings.
